Teach For China (TFC) Mission
Inspired by the vision that one day all Chinese children will have access to a quality education, the Teach For China (TFC) takes a unique approach to eliminating educational inequity in China. In partnership with the global network Teach For All (www.teachforallnetwork.org), TFC recruits, selects, trains, and supports outstanding US and China graduates who work side-by-side to deliver an excellent education through contextually tailored, student centered teaching solutions.
By placing its Teaching Fellows in full-time, two-year teaching commitments at under-resourced schools, TFC address the pressing need for exceptional teachers in China’s high-poverty communities while simultaneously fostering a constituency of young leaders positioned to advance the cause of educational equity throughout their careers. In service, TFC’s cross-cultural teams share profound, enduring experiences as they demonstrate that economically disadvantaged students can succeed, and that educational inequity is a problem we can solve.

IWD 2010 raised over 100,000 RMB. The money has been used to cover the costs of TFC fellows Phoebe Jiang and Sophie Xuan Xiao who teach at Shao Jie School in China's southwestern Yunnan Province. Phoebe and Sophie have been granted 10,000 RMB of IWD funds to implement an after-school community mentorship program targeting 3rd through 8th graders entitled "Beyond the Classroom -- Girls Leading Girls." In 2011, IWD hopes to raise 200,000 RMB to provide further assistance to TFC and its fellows and give more funding to projects and programs supporting the progress of female students.
